About us

Promoting gender equality and women’s rights

PES Women is fighting for a gender just and feminist Europe by giving a voice, tools and platform for women, by putting forward specific women’s rights policies, through gender-mainstreaming the overall policy-making of the Social Democratic family.

PES Women promotes gender equality and women’s representation. We fight for equal pay, to end viol

The PES Women team has been in Paris since yesterday for a series of exciting events and bilateral meetings, deepening ties with our French socialist and feminist network 🌹🟣➡️Our President, Zita Gurmai, spoke on the panel of the FERPA Women’s Committee, titled “Gender Inequalities in the EU Demographic Transition Process.” She addressed how EU institutions and policies are responding to current demographic and societal changes, and how gender-specific challenges are being considered.➡️We also had the pleasure of meeting Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the French Socialist Party, and with Dieynaba Diop, party spokesperson and Vice-President of the Socialist Group in the National Assembly.➡️Later, we exchanged with Céline Thiébault-Martinez, a PS Member of Parliament deeply committed to women’s rights in France, both politically (ex. the tax exemption of alimony payments) and through civil society. This discussion took place in a truly unique and inspiring space dedicated to gender equality: La Cité Audacieuse, run by the Fondation des Femmes. 💪➡️Finally, we had a rich discussion with Laurence Rossignol, feminist Socialist Senator and former French Minister for Gender Equality, known for her unwavering commitment to advancing women’s rights. “Women’s Rights Are Human Rights – So Why Do We Still Have to Fight for Them?” That was the central question of this week’s conference in Budapest, hosted by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), the MSZP’s Women’s Section and the Hungarian Trade Union Confederation Women’s Section. ➡️ The event focused on concrete challenges facing women in the labour market today: – Tackling sexual harassment at work (nearly 1 in 3 women in Europe experience it) – Closing the gender pay gap through EU legislation – Strengthening trade union action and legal protections for women workers. 💬 PES Women President opened the event by calling for the full implementation of the EU Pay Transparency Directive without exemptions: the right to know if you are paid fairly must not depend on the size of your company or your gender. #paytransparencynow #FeministEurope #fairworkplaces See MoreSee Less
