PES Women promotes gender equality and women’s representation. We fight for equal pay, to end viol

➡️ 🏆At this Friday’s Statutory meeting, PES Women honored outgoing Commissioner @dallihelena for her tireless work as the first Equality Commissioner. Together with our MEPs in the European Parliament, these efforts have led to considerable achievements that our political family can be proud of, from the first Gender Equality Strategy to the first-ever EU law on combatting violence against women. ✊Some of our feminist allies in the EP as @iratxegarper, @marcangel_mep, Evelyn Regner, @politikerhelenefritzon, Joanna Scheuring Wielgus, @mnoichlmdep Maria Noichl, but also PES Women Statutory members commended the work of Helena Dalli. We all committed to preserving Dalli’s legacy and to pursue the fight for equality. 🌍❤️➡️Members discussed about gender equality developments and heard some insights from @mep_evelyn_regner on S&D’s work at the European Parliament, as the next five years are expected to be highly challenging. @joanna.sw also spoke about last week’s plenary in Strasbourg where a debate on abortion rights in Poland took place following the findings of the CEDAW. ➡ Subordination of the Equality portfolio under another – rather than maintaining it as a standalone priority – sends a concerning signal about the next mandate as well as to women who constitute more than half of the EU population. ⚠️PES Women President Zita Gurmai, together with PES Executive Vice-President Katarina Barley, Vice-President of the S&D Group Heléne Fritzon, S&D Member of European Parliament and FEPS Vice-President Lina Gálvez, and the S&D Group Coordinator of the FEMM Committee Joanna Scheuring Wielgus, united to address a letter to Ursula Von der Leyen. ➡ We are seeking clear explanations from the Commission President to address the concerns of the feminist community, which continues to watch developments closely. The next Commission must deliver progress for women.📩 The link to the letter and our press release is in @pes_women bio and website. See MoreSee Less
