Following Statutory Meeting in Malta, PES Women discussed the role of Women in Digital FutureTech

Last Saturday, members of PES Women held their statutory meeting in Malta. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Nisa Laburisti, the women’s organisation of the Maltese Partit Laburista, who hosted the gathering in the party’s headquarters.

Discussions focused on developments in gender equality across member countries, with particular attention given to the situation in Malta, where despite remaining challenges, the Partit Laburista has made significant progress in advancing women’s rights and equality in recent years, thanks to the efforts of key figures such as Helena Dalli, Rosianne Cutajar, and Rebecca Buttigieg.

Lina Gálvez, Chair of the FEMM Committee and S&D MEP, also joined the session to provide updates on the committee’s current priorities and to exchange views with members on key legislative files at the European level, such as the 2025 Gender Equality Strategy.

In the margins of the meeting, a thematic round-table was held to explore the role of women in shaping the digital future. Discussions addressed major challenges and opportunities related to women’s access to careers in tech, AI, and cybersecurity, their participation in digital innovation, and the ongoing gender gap in both digital skills and representation.

The visit also provided an opportunity to meet with Rebecca Buttigieg, Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms and Equality, offering space to discuss national achievements and new initiatives.
