Members of the PES Women Executive and the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Roxana Mînzatu during the online meeting today

PES Women Executive members met this Friday for the final meeting of 2024 and began with a special welcome to Commission Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, Roxana Mînzatu. As her responsibilities will also include guiding the Equality Commissioner, participants discussed the gender equality dimension and emphasized that PES Women are available to support her work in the coming mandate. PES Women President Zita Gurmai thanked the EC Executive Vice-President Minzatu for her time and expressed positive expectations on the future cooperation.

This exchange was followed up with by feedback from Katarina Barley, PES Executive Vice-President, and European Parliament Vice-President, on gender equality developments in the European Parliament. This was complemented by national developments by PES Women Executive members, a review of PES Women 2024 main activities, and also ones that are upcoming in 2025!

The efforts and hard work of PES Women in 2024 have been marked by the preparations made for the European elections as well as campaigning, supporting the PES family’s common candidate, Nicolas Schmit, and ensuring that feminist priorities were echoed. One of the main highlights of 2024 for PES Women was the publication of their 2024 EU Elections Feminist toolkit which sought to act as a comprehensive for their member parties and women organisations.

With the new mandate already in place and 2025 being right around the corner, PES Women remain firmly committed to defending the key demands and priorities they’ve pushed for during the EU elections and will closely monitor the progress of the new mandate.
