This morning, the verdict of the Mazan rapes trial was announced. Gisèle Pélicot’s ex-husband, Dominique Pélicot, and 50 other men accused of raping her, were found guilty, following a four-month historic trial. Mr Pélicot received the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Justice has given reason to Gisèle Pélicot: shame can change sides. We would like to thank Gisèle Pélicot. Her courageous decision to make her story public, has not only given a voice to the victims of rape, but has also exposed how this horrific crime has been normalised, sparking a profound debate in our society. We hope that the verdict of this trial will lead to real political change and action, including at EU level.#giselepelicot #mazantrial #onlyyesmeansyes #mercigiselepelicot See MoreSee Less

🌹🤝This morning, the PES Women Executive held its final meeting of 2024, beginning with a special welcome to @roxana.minzatu, Commission Executive Vice-President responsible for Social Rights, Skills, and Quality Jobs. As her responsibilities include collaborating with the Equality Commissioner, we had a very enriching discussion on the gender equality dimension of the portfolios. President @gurmaizita also emphasized PES Women’s availability and determination to support her work during the coming mandate.➡️This exchange was followed by feedback from @katarina.barley, PES Executive Vice-President and European Parliament Vice-President, on gender equality developments in the European Parliament. It was complemented by feedback on national developments from PES Women Executive members, a review of PES Women’s main activities in 2024, and a preview of those planned for 2025.📝 The efforts and hard work of PES Women in 2024 have essentially been marked by preparations for the European elections and campaigning. A key highlight: the publication of our 2024 EU Elections Feminist Toolkit for our member parties and women organisations! ✊ With the new mandate already in place and 2025 fast approaching, PES Women remain firmly committed to defending the key demands and priorities we pushed for during the EU elections and will closely monitor the implementation and progress of the new mandate. #feministeurope #womensupportingwomen See MoreSee Less
