Zita Gurmai, President of PES Women said: “I am extremely happy to see the work of many years finally take shape in the action of our talented Ministers and Secretaries of State. It is essential for our political family to reclaim gender equality as a central issue. We owe it to the younger generation who is growing up with the idea that modern societies are progressive societies that are putting women and men on an equal footing”.
Moreover, in the context of the Celebration of 20 years of Beijing Platform for Action, the ministers and state secretaries signed the declaration calling for equal sexual and reproductive rights for all women in Europe and across the world under the motto ‘Power to women; My Body My Rights’. The discussion focused on the sexual and reproductive rights of women in Europe and accross the world. The right for every women to make their own choice for their own body is at the core of PES Women action. It needs to be given priority over considerations of culture or religion, to go beyond the persisting taboo around sexual and reproductive rights. It is essential to keep the matter high on the European and global political agenda.
